Compare two dates
Date Difference
Measure the distance between a start date and an end date using several useful formats.
Find the difference
Choose two dates and whether the ending date should be included in the final count.
The date difference calculator measures the distance between a start date and an end date in several formats at once. It is useful when a single total in days is not enough.
How to compare two dates
- 1Choose the starting date and ending date.
- 2Select whether the ending date should count as a complete day.
- 3Calculate to see calendar duration, total days, weeks and weekend days.
Common uses
- Measuring a project or study period
- Checking days between appointments
- Converting a range into weeks and remaining days
- Counting weekend days inside a period
Inclusive and exclusive date counting
An exclusive calculation measures elapsed time up to the end date. An inclusive calculation adds the final calendar day to the count.
The calendar breakdown and the total-day breakdown answer different questions. Months are calendar months, while total weeks are calculated from the complete number of days.
Date difference questions
Why does including the end date add one day?
Elapsed time normally stops at the beginning of the end date. Inclusive counting treats that date as another full calendar day.
Are months treated as 30 days?
No. Calendar months use their actual lengths. The separate total-day result gives the exact number of days.
Can the end date be before the start date?
No. Reverse the dates so the earlier date is entered first.
